Vince McMahon has changed plans to give a singles push to a WWE Raw star

Plans have changed once again because Vince McMahon has decided to go in a different direction.

Peyton Royce and Lacey Evans teamed up last week on Raw and that appeared to be a change of plans for Royce as she was originally supposed to get a singles push.

Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE has put time into trying to get Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke over as a team because they don’t have many teams in the women’s tag team division and now they are trying to get over Evans and Royce as a team. Meltzer noted that the original plan was for Royce to be a singles star but then he changed his mind.

The original talk about Royce becoming a singles star was in late July when McMahon praised Royce and Bianca Belair during a meeting. Several weeks later, Royce and Billie Kay split up and Kay was moved to SmackDown where they are not doing much with her.

The Royce/Evans story is odd because they did an inset promo during last week’s Raw and they were getting along fine. You can see the inset promo below.

But after Raw, things were different. They were arguing on Raw Talk and on social media so it’s not clear what they are trying to accomplish. Perhaps they are trying to copy the “we don’t like each other but we tolerate each other” type of thing that Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler are doing.

What is clear is that they have pulled back on Royce’s singles push. Since splitting up The IIconcis in late August, Royce hasn’t done much on WWE Raw. She lost to Asuka by DQ on 9/21 in what appeared to be a setup for a future match. Royce got a win over Kay on an October episode of Raw and again on Main Event and she hasn’t had a singles match since that time.
