Canelo Alvarez defeats Callum Smith via unanimous decision to win WBC and WBA super Middleweight Championships
Canelo Alvarez defeated Callum Smith to win the WBA “super” Super Middleweight title and the WBC Super Middleweight title on Saturday night’s DAZN broadcast from the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX. 15,000 fans were allowed to attend.
There wasn’t much action in the first round but Canelo did land a few punches towards the end of the round. It was a close round though. Canelo began to take over the fight by the second round.
Canelo landed much harder punches to start out the fourth round. Canelo easily won this round. Canelo continued to move forward and he made Smith miss most of his punches through the fifth round but Smith looked better in the sixth round. Canelo had Smith rocked and up against the ropes a few times in the seventh round. It was more of the same in the eighth round with Canello landing more power punches, including an uppercut up against the ropes.
Canelo busted Smith’s nose in this round. Canelo opened with a right hand and body shots up against the ropes. Smith got rocked with 1:25 left in the ninth round but he was saved by the ropes but Canelo hit another uppercut up against the ropes. Smith looked rough towards the end of the ninth round as it looked like he got rocked a few times.
Canelo also dominated the tenth round with hard right hands to the head and body. Smith looked better in the eleventh round but it seemed like Canelo still landed more shots. In the final round, Smith tried to fight back but it was mostly Canelo hitting the big shots.
