KENTA to defend IWGP US Title shot at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 15
With IWGP US Champion Jon Moxley not making it to Japan for Wrestle Kingdom 15, the title won’t be on the line at this show.
Thus, NJPW has decided to have KENTA defend his contract that guarantees him a shot at the WGP United States Championship against Juice Robinson. KENTA made it official during today’s Road to Tokyo Dome show as he accepted Robinson’s challenge for the match.
Robinson issued the challenge while doing a promo after Monday’s Road to Tokyo Dome show.
Moxley won the strap for a second time on the first night of Wrestle Kingdom 14 when he beat Lance Archer, who had won the title after Moxley had been stripped for not being able to defend the title in 2019.
Moxley would later defend the title by beating Robinson on night two of Wrestle Kingdom 14 and then Minoru Suzuki at The New Beginning in Osaka on February 9th.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s still no word on when Moxley will be able to work NJPW shows as he would have to quarantine, which would create issues with him appearing on AEW Dynamite as the promotion tapes the show every other week.
Wrestle Kingdom 15 will take place on January 4 and January 5, 2021 at the Tokyo Dome. The promotion has already confirmed some big matches for the show.
