WWE denied several NXT trademarks due to lack of written consent from wrestlers

Earlier this year, WWE had to deal with an issue with the United States Patent and Trademark Office about receiving the ownership rights to various trademarks of names for its wrestlers such as Drew Gulak, Pete Dunne, Tony Nese, Justus, and Mia Yim.

Now, the issue has come up again and the biggest reason for it is due to the lack of written consent from talent who perform under the character names.

WWE attempted to file for the names of Mercedes Martinez, Malcolm Bivens, and Raquel Gonzalez. These trademarks were submitted on August 10, but have yet to be accepted by the USPTO, according to Heel By Nature, which has obtained the documentation for the trademarks.

The latest documents were sent in on December 10th. If WWE can’t get the ownership rights then they will be abandoned in six months. In order for WWE to do this then they need to provide signed documents from talent.

It should be noted that Yim registered the trademark for her name on her own, but did so outside the company. Mercedes Martinez did the exact same thing.
