This week, the Japanese media shared the heartbreaking news of the passing of the iconic sumo legend, K-1 fighter, and pro wrestling sensation, Akebono.
Akebono Tarō, known in his personal life as Chadwick Haheo Rowan, breathed his last due to heart failure after bravely fighting illness for a prolonged period.
Suffering from heart complications since 2017, he was hospitalized and placed in a medically induced coma, battling to overcome the odds.
For fans of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Akebono’s unforgettable moment came in his triumph over Big Show in a monumental sumo match at WrestleMania 21. His legacy extended beyond WWE, as he engaged in memorable encounters with the likes of Brock Lesnar in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and clinched the prestigious All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) Triple Crown Championship.
