Notes From Inner Circle Vegas Segment, Including Dragon Interview

This past week on Dynamite saw the Inner Circle get drunk and disorderly around Las Vegas in a segment inspired by the Hangover.

Multiple famous faces made an appearance, including ex-WCW and Impact star Konnan, and former WWE superstar Hornswoggle.

But there was one other appearance whose name might not be all too familiar with wrestling fans. Piff the Magic Dragon.

Piff is something of a big name in the magic world, having risen to fame through his appearances on America’s Got Talent and Penn & Teller’s Fool Us. Along with his dog, Mr. Piffles, Piff’s sarcastic, nonchalant patter combined with masterful sleight of hand have earned him a regular stint at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, wowing audiences on a nightly basis.

We spoke to Piff about his surprise appearance on AEW Dynamite.

When asked how the cameo came about:

“I’d just finished doing my show at the Flamingo, and a friend of mine arranged it. [AEW] wanted a big Las Vegas headliner to appear. So they booked Mr. Piffles, and I showed up to hold him. We had a while to hang out. At one point the smoke machine died and they had to recharge it. So we were waiting around. Mostly they just spoke to the dog.”

On whether he’s a wrestling fan:

“I was. Then Chris Jericho kidnapped Mr. Piffles and I haven’t seen him for a week. So now, not so much.”

On what it was like working with the Inner Circle and AEW team:

“They were very nice. On their best behavior. No one wanted to get roasted. I can’t keep up. I live in a cave. I barely get dial up. But they were nice guys. Whoever they were.”

It seems Piff is doing what AEW aren’t – keeping kayfabe alive, and for that we respect him. You can catch Piff (and a returned Mr. Piffles) on their virtual tour here.

The majority of the scenes in the Vegas segment were filmed at the Cromwell Hotel (formerly known as the Barbary Coast Hotel) according to this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
