Nic Nemeth, also known as Dolph Ziggler, recently discussed his departure from WWE and his new journey in TNA and NJPW. During an episode of Chris Jericho’s Talk Is Jericho podcast, the former world champion shared insights on his post-WWE bookings and gave credit to Shinsuke Nakamura for his current opportunities. He also shed light on his blossoming friendship with the King of Strong Style during their time in WWE. Check out some of the highlights from his interview below.

Nemeth reflected on how he and Shinsuke Nakamura became good friends:

A few years back, when Shinsuke made his debut from NXT to the main roster, I had the routine of wrestling every newcomer. At that time, I didn’t know much about him or Japanese wrestling since I wasn’t much into watching wrestling. Despite my detached attitude, after WrestleMania, we found ourselves working the dark match together overseas. While seated next to each other, we collaborated on our match and shared a few laughs over a bottle of whiskey. It was during this time that I realized what a kind-hearted person Shinsuke was, and we hit it off as buddies. I truly enjoyed working with him and appreciated our bond.

He also expressed his frustration with being sidelined and his decision to reach out about leaving WWE:

Every time my contract renewal came up, I contemplated leaving as I felt stuck on the sidelines with minimal opportunities. I reached out to Shinsuke, who had previously offered his assistance if I ever decided to leave. After sending a heartfelt email to Vince McMahon expressing my gratitude for the years in WWE while also voicing my concerns about my lack of purpose in the company, I waited anxiously for a response. Two weeks later, I received the news of my release. It was a pivotal moment for me.

Nemeth revealed how Shinsuke helped him connect with contacts at NJPW:

Following my departure from WWE, I explored the idea of working in the independent circuit and reaching out to Shinsuke for advice. His prompt response and assurance led me to Rocky Romero, who facilitated my entry into NJPW. I was excited to venture into new territories and grateful for the warm reception I received in Japan. This was one of the first steps I took post my WWE release, and it opened up a world of opportunities for me.
