Kane on The Undertaker’s retirement: “I think he made a good decision although it is bittersweet”

Kane did an interview with TV Insider to talk about The Undertaker ahead of WWE giving him a tribute at Sunday’s Survivor Series pay-per-view event where he is supposed to have his “Final Farewell.”

Obviously, the connection between Kane and The Undertaker goes back to 1997 where in storyline it was revealed that Kane was the brother of “The Phenom.”

During the chat, Kane was asked about his thoughts when he first learned that Taker was doing his Last Ride docuseries on the WWE Network that documented the last few years of his career and ultimately the decision to retire.

Kane noted that he knew Taker was getting to that point in his career, but they didn’t talk about anything specific as far as how it would go.

“It’s really bittersweet for me because of my personal relationship with Mark and The Undertaker and Kane. It’s a story that is very important to me. Personally, I’m also a fan of The Undertaker. The Undertaker, he doesn’t age.

It’s kind of like when you’re six years old and finding out Santa Claus isn’t real. It’s like, “Man, The Undertaker is retiring? What is happening with the world?” It’s shocking in a way, but nevertheless as long as Mark is happy. That’s what I think is important.”

Kane noted that they’ve had conversations over the years and Taker would tell him that he would go as long as he felt he could not disappoint people. He recalled Taker wanting people to think he was the same guy and not an older version of the character. He brought up Taker having injuries and how he’s at the point where he feels he can’t physically do it anymore.

“He is at this point now. The fact he still had a great match this year with AJ Styles in that Boneyard match at WrestleMania. He wants to go out on top and doesn’t want to diminish the mystique of The Undertaker in that manner. I think he made a good decision. Although it is bittersweet.”

Kane also talked about their history, WrestleMania 14 build, and more. Check out the full interview here.
