At the Windy City Riot event in Chicago, Illinois, NJPW showcased a marquee matchup between ‘Scapegoat’ Jack Perry and Shota Umino. The unique showdown was made more interesting by Perry’s continuous jabs at CM Punk throughout the evening.
As Perry made his entrance, he was met with animosity from the Chicago crowd, known for being loyal to CM Punk. He sported a jacket with “Cry Me A River” written on it, a direct reference to a line he delivered at AEW All In London that led to a backstage altercation with Punk.
The taunting didn’t end there. Fans in Chicago chanted ‘Oh Cry Me A River’ at Perry, who retaliated by mocking Punk and even attempting to execute Punk’s GTS finisher. However, Umino managed to reverse the move into a DDT.
Subsequently, the audience chanted “You Got Choked Out,” as Umino applied a guillotine choke similar to the one Punk used on Perry in London.
Despite Perry’s efforts, he ultimately lost the match to Umino. Nevertheless, he showed sportsmanship by shaking Umino’s hand after the match.
