Davey Boy Smith Jr. Opens Up About His Fight with Diverticulosis and Recovery from Surgery

10

Davey Boy Smith Jr. recently shared an update on his health after undergoing emergency surgery earlier this month. In a candid interview with Mike McGuire, he detailed the symptoms he experienced and the diagnosis he received.

Smith described initially experiencing extreme pain and discomfort around Canadian Thanksgiving. He struggled to eat during a holiday dinner due to severe constipation. Despite attributing it to possibly bad food, the pain and swelling in his stomach worsened significantly. He likened the sensation to being repeatedly kicked or shot in the gut, highlighting the intensity of his suffering.

Seeking medical attention, Smith visited a walk-in clinic where a doctor detected high levels of white blood cells and blood in his urine. Initially diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, he was prescribed antibiotics and advised to monitor his symptoms. However, as the pain persisted, further tests revealed the presence of diverticulosis, a condition characterized by infected and swollen colon.

Following diagnosis, Smith underwent surgery to address the infected area of his colon. Although the procedure involved removing a portion of his colon, it was not as extensive as some cases, such as that of Brock Lesnar. Smith expressed relief that his surgery went well and expressed gratitude for the medical intervention. He emphasized the importance of follow-up care, including a colonoscopy to ensure his continued recovery.

Reflecting on his experience and the potential causes of his condition, Smith acknowledged the role of genetics and the unpredictability of such health issues. He cited the example of his relative who also had diverticulosis, despite leading a healthy lifestyle. Smith remained hopeful for his own recovery and urged others to be proactive about their health.
