Candice LeRae details suffering arm injury at NXT TakeOver: WarGames

Candice LeRae opened up on suffering an injury in her most recent match.

She worked the Women’s WarGame Match earlier this month that featured Shotzi Blackheart, Ember Moon, Rhea Ripley, and Io Shirai losing to LeRae’s team that consisted of Toni Storm, Raquel Gonzalez, and Dakota Kai.

Right after the event, it was feared that LeRae broke a bone in her arm. The injury happened when she took a senton backsplash from Blackheart when she jumped off a ladder onto LeRae, who had a chair.

She spoke about the injury while doing an interview with PWinsider.com. She started out by noting that she feels great although she feels a bit sore.

“I’ll take it because my arm – no break – it was a Christmas miracle. I know. It was hard to believe, I was like this is definitely broken, we went to the ER, got x-rays…even our medical team looked at it and I want to say within 24 hours I was able to pretty much use my arm and my fingers all again – obviously tender, but… (laughs).”

She noted that when she took the move, her ribs started to hurt, and was trying to wait out the pain. The referee wanted a doctor to check her out. She noted that she was freaked out because she never had a rib injury before. When she was being evaluated, that’s when she noticed she couldn’t use her arm.

LeRae mentioned how she couldn’t leave the cage during the match because the team would’ve lost. After the match, she was able to breathe normally and everything was fine. She then talked about various things she can’t do because of the arm injury.

LeRae went into the extent of the injury as it’s an issue with the cartilage in her arm, but it’s not broken.

“It was a deep tissue…all the cartilage and stuff just got mushed, and I mean, for days after I went up to people like, It’s not broken and medical staff were like that’s so crazy because everybody was convinced that it was broken. I’m trying not to cry when they’re telling me it’s broken because I’m like, I want kids, I don’t have time to take any time off right now, we gotta keep this show going, and there was still a part of me going, Maybe it’s not broken, because my body has endured a lot of things in my almost 18 years of doing this, maybe it’s not broken, but it wasn’t (laughs).”

LeRae also talked about WWE NXT, Johnny Gargano, younger talent, and more. Check out the full interview here.
