Backstage News On Leon Ruff Winning The WWE NXT North American Title

As many of you saw during last night’s episode of WWE NXT, Leon Ruff won the NXT North American title after he defeated Johnny Gargano in the opening match. According to the Wrestling Observer, the angle was not done in a way to make Ruff a star.

The idea was for it to be done as a joke, which resulted in the belt falling off of Ruff because he was too skinny. He also tripped over it on the way out, which was also done on purpose. WWE’s idea was that it was nothing more than a comedy angle with Gargano and had no intention of making Ruff a star.
