WWE has discussed launching Lucha Libre series

WWE could be launching a new Lucha Libre series soon.

PWrestling.com/a> reported on Monday that the company has been discussing this series, which is said to be an NXT Mexico of sorts. The series would air in the United States and the company has spoken with a few people about running the project.

It was noted that this project is in the early planning stages. Chavo Guerrero Jr is reportedly one of the names being considered as a consultant on the project. The former WWE star was an agent for Lucha Underground and was very involved with the promotion.

A source compared the project to the WCW Telemundo “Festival de Lucha” pilot that was taped on January 27, 1999 in Waco, Texas, which never aired although fans were able to watch the pilot when the WWE Network added it to the “Hidden Gems” section.

Over the past few years, WWE has expressed an interest in expanding into international markets. They created the NXT UK brand in 2018 and wanted to go into the Japanese market although that has yet to get off the ground.
