Tony Schiavone is known for his ability to entertain the audience when he’s in front of the camera.
During the AEW Dynamite episode on April 10, 2024, aired on TBS, Schiavone did just that.
In a recent episode of his “What Happened When” podcast, the iconic pro wrestling commentator and one of the key voices of AEW, delved into the public’s reaction to his facial expressions when backstage footage from AEW ALL IN 2023 in London, England, showing CM Punk and Jack Perry getting into a scuffle, was aired.
Speaking candidly, Schiavone addressed his facial reaction, saying, “My facial reaction was all about adding more drama to The Bucks for being jerks. I didn’t react to the footage itself because honestly, I couldn’t care less,” Schiavone explained. “So what? Who cares. I wasn’t upset at the promotion, Tony Khan, or what was shown. I was fully invested in the storyline of The Bucks feuding with FTR, refusing to shake hands, and all the drama that followed… I genuinely mean it when I say I couldn’t care less. It doesn’t affect my life.”
Later on the show, Schiavone emphasized that he doesn’t believe AEW’s tactics are reminiscent of WCW’s controversial decisions that led to the downfall of the former promotion.
“Some people are drawing parallels between the footage we showed and WCW’s infamous finger poke of doom moment,” Schiavone stated. “But let me tell you, that’s what you want to believe because you want us to fail. Having been a part of both companies, I can confidently say that there’s no comparison between AEW and WCW. You may want to make that connection, but you’re mistaken. I’ve been there for both, you haven’t.”
