Latest on WWE’s plans to launch NXT India brand
It was reported earlier this month that WWE has plans to launch a version of NXT in India with the expectation of a roll-out in early 2021.
POST Wrestling and Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics has the latest update on the project. WWE was expected to tape content in January in Florida with the idea that it would air on both linear television in India and the WWE Network.
On Thursday, the media outlet was told that there is a shooting date listed on the calendar for January 22nd with the calendar stating, “India Special”.
There is also a photoshoot scheduled for that week. There’s still no clear understanding regarding the introduction of the new brand, but the belief is that it will be a series that could begin with a one or two-night tournament to kick things off.
The report states that this has been a long-term project where plans have evolved and shifted many times.
It’s possible that more changes will be made before the program airs. As of November, WWE had plans to host an eight-man tournament for the project.
