Kevin Owens reveals Vince McMahon was planning to work WrestleMania 34 match at one point
Kevin Owens did a media Zoom call with various media outlets including the likes of Inside The Ropes and Alex McCarthy.
McCarthy was promoting the interview that he will release on Monday night when he mentioned that Owens shared a pitch that was made for WrestleMania 34.
This was when Shane McMahon was feuding with Owens and Sami Zayn on television. Of course, Daniel Bryan ended up teaming up with McMahon for this match.
However, due to Bryan not being cleared to wrestle again due to him being forced to retire after having a history of concussions, WWE needed to come up with alternative plans for McMahon’s partner.
Owens claims that at one point, Vince McMahon was going to team with his son. The original tweet stated WrestleMania 33, but McCarthy later corrected it to WrestleMania 34.
“There was four of us on the zoom with KO and I’ve got to say, he was really, really good. He has no problem sharing at all and that’s the best. He told @KennyMcITR that the plan for WrestleMania 33 at one point was Shane & Vince Vs KO & Sami! Can you imagine!”
Then there was another situation less than two weeks out from WrestleMania 34 and that was the possibility of Shane not working the show. The reason for that was due to him being hospitalized with acute diverticulitis and an umbilical hernia. Chris Jericho has confirmed that he was the emergency backup plan to replace Shane in the match.
