Joey Ryan seeks judgment in lawsuit against Impact Wrestling

Joey Ryan filed a lawsuit against Impact Wrestling’s parent company Anthem Sports & Entertainment back in September for what he says is a breach of contract. 

He was fired from the promotion because of the #SpeakingOut allegations against him that allege sexual abuse and assault. As noted, although his contract was set to expire in August 2021, he was let go in June.

Ryan claims his contract stated that he needed to be informed of any issues in writing along with a “5 day cure period.” Per the deal, if nothing could be worked out within that time period then he and Impact would have 30 days to resolve the issues.

Thus, Ryan filed the lawsuit because the terms of the contract were not followed and he is seeking $10 million along with legal fees and other “relief” that the court may find in his favor.

Fast forward, Ryan, real name Joseph Meehan, is now alleging the company took too long to respond to his lawsuit. The wrestler is requesting judgment in his favor from Circuit Court of Davidson County, Tennessee, according to court documents obtained by Pwinsider.com.

The new filing notes that Anthem had 30 days with an additional 30-day extension to respond to his lawsuit filed on September 24. It took until December 4th for Anthem to respond, which they did and denied all of the allegations against them.

They argued that his contract indeed ran through August 2021 “unless earlier terminated.” Anthem also claimed that Ryan “mistates” the contents of his exhibits including his contract as well as the promotion publicly commenting on Ryan’s exit in order for “Anthem’s audience would not expect immediate appearances by Plaintiff at wrestling events produced by Anthem.” Finally, Anthem denied that they breached the contract.

Ryan’s attorney states that Anthem is “not an incompetent or a minor” but “failed and refused to answer” the lawsuit in a timely manner. So that’s why Ryan wants a judgment to be made.
