Drew McIntyre’s WWE title win on Raw was a late decision
This Sunday at WWE Survivor Series, Drew McIntyre will face Roman Reigns in a champion vs. champion match. None of the titles will be on the line but the hook for fans is that they are seeing a dream match between the two top guys on their respective brands.
As first noted here on WrestlingNews.co, the plan as of Friday was for Orton to face Reigns at the pay-per-view but those plans changed by the time they went on the air.
Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that all of the key players were under the impression before Monday Night Raw that Reigns vs. Orton was still the match planned for Survivor Series.
Meltzer noted that the belief among many people in the company was that Orton likely figured out that he was losing the title once McIntyre showed up on SmackDown. Of course, it’s possible that he was tipped off before then and just kept things quiet.
WrestlingNews.co spoke with two people on Monday afternoon who were still under the impression that it was still Orton vs. Reigns on Sunday. There were people there who would usually know these things and did not hear about the plans changing until the match took place.
