The Aerial Assassin was apparently responding to a comment made by The Game during WrestleMania XL media week, where he talked about talent who are not willing to put in the hard work. Many believed that Triple H’s comments were directed at Ospreay. In his promo, Ospreay didn’t hold back as he told Renee Paquette that the only reason Triple H (he didn’t use his real name) was in his current position was because he was “grinding on the boss’s daughter.” To add insult to injury, CM Punk also took a dig at Ospreay for getting a tattoo of the AEW All In London attendance.
This morning, reports from PW Torch suggested that it was Tony Khan who came up with the idea for Ospreay’s line. However, Fightful Select has revealed that it was actually Ospreay’s own idea, and he worked closely with the creative team to make it happen. There was also consideration for Ospreay to take a shot at CM Punk, but it was ultimately decided that it would be too much, especially since the All In footage was already being aired.
Wrestlers from various companies were reportedly surprised by the shots taken at Ospreay by the WWE. A WWE talent mentioned that it was evident that Ospreay was trying to show respect towards the process and towards WWE, despite ultimately deciding to sign with AEW for the sake of his family.
Overall, last night’s AEW Dynamite was filled with jaw-dropping moments, and Will Ospreay’s promo directed at Triple H definitely added a whole new level of excitement to the show.
