Cody Rhodes is Cody Rhodes Again, But Won’t Be? & More Quick Takes

Welcome back to another round of Quick Takes—a post that indulges in the topics that aren’t worth dedicating a full article to, but are still on my mind.

Each week, I try to cram in as many smaller talking points as I can via a speedier process, and I invite you to chime in with your own thoughts about these topics and anything else by keeping the discussion going in the comments below! Drop some more talking points in there for everyone to chat it up about, too!

Without further ado, let’s get into this week’s topics.

Cody is now Cody Rhodes again…maybe

Cody’s gotten the rights back to the Cody Rhodes trademark. However, he’s claiming he’s still not going to use it.

Why? I know some people don’t care, but I personally have always thought the mono “Cody” name was ridiculous. Now that he has the ability to be Cody Rhodes, why would you want to stay just Cody???

It’s not the most important thing in the world. Don’t get me wrong. He’s still the same wrestler and he’s still great in the ring and blah blah blah. But I’ve never thought Bret “Hitman” Hart would be better off if he were just “Bret” and I never would have preferred if “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was just “Steve”, would you? Certain people make it work, like The Rock and The Miz, but “Cody” has never felt right to me.

If you’ve got the name and you can do it, there’s no reason not to. Using it will only help your notoriety for other business ventures. Otherwise, people will say “Cody who?”

Reports: Vince McMahon Changes His Mind

This was a slow news week where most of the “dirt sheet” scuttlebutt was basically “Vince changed his mind about something. He has no plans. That’s not happening. This is going nowhere. New course.” and so on.

I’m not surprised. Look at the product. This is nothing new.

Anthony Green is now Austin August Grey

Newcomer Anthony Greene has undergone the typical WWE name change of replacing his generic name with another generic name. Vic Joseph called him Austin Grey, from what I heard, but he seems to be going by August Grey instead.

It’s a meh transition. Nothing is gained or lost. It’s not like he’s pulling a Michael McGillicutty where it’s just ridiculous, nor is it an upgrade to anything more interesting. Both are bland. Lateral move.

Kylie Rae Leaving Wrestling

Kylie Rae has announced that she’s stepping away from wrestling to focus on her mental health. This is terrible news in the sense that it’s come to this, but it’s great news that she’s taking the steps necessary to focus on her well-being.

Hopefully, whatever she’s going through, she can find comfort in the next phase of her life and can enjoy pro wrestling through some other avenues, if she so chooses. More people who are suffering from anxiety or depression or issues of anything on that spectrum should try to follow suit and remove themselves from situations that are triggering. Good for her.
