Booker T recalls when WCW wanted to Harlem Heat’s individual names to be Kane and Kole
On the latest episode of “The Hall Of Fame” podcast, Booker T previewed tonight’s Survivor Series pay-per-view and he gave his thoughts on some of the big wrestling news of the week. Booker also shared a story about his early days in WCW when they wanted to call him and his brother Kane and Kole.
Fans may remember that they were called Kane and Kole during their early days with the company.
Booker said, “They wanted the team to be known as Chi-Town Heat. I was Kole but half the time I didn’t remember it when doing promos. I was disappointed when they did that. I don’t know if they were just trying to be like WWE and trying to follow their mode where guys come in and they change their names. For us, it seemed like they wanted to change us. They wanted us to be something totally different than what we were. Kane and Kole for me, it just didn’t work out. I didn’t feel comfortable being Kole. I don’t think I would have ever felt comfortable being Kole throughout my career. I don’t think I could be him in the real world and looking at myself as Kole. It also didn’t feel like a championship name. There again, when the time came, my brother and I suggested and said this thing is not working and asked if we could get our old names back, Booker T and Stevie Ray. We knew how to be the Ebony Experience in the South. Booker T and Stevie Ray, those are two championship names that they blessed us back with those names. Ever since day one, it’s been Booker T and Stevie Ray as well as the music. The music has a whole lot to do as far as how people feel when you walk out of the curtain and they first hear that music. My brother and I made sure we picked championship music to where you say, here comes those boys.”
