Warner Bros. Discovery had a fantastic first quarter in 2024, with five nights of more than a 50 percent share of primetime cable viewing among Adults 18-49. This success was driven by a diverse range of programming, including sports coverage, true crime series, cooking competitions, and adult animation titles.
The network attracted over 142 million total viewers on average each month, accounting for nearly one-third of Adults who watched cable during prime time. Key brands like TBS, TNT, TLC, Food Network, and HGTV were among the top 10 ad-supported cable networks, with TBS ranking as the #1 cable entertainment network in total day and prime among Adults.
One of the standout performers in Q1 was TNT, which secured the #1 rank for cable entertainment networks in prime among Adults 18-49. Their coverage of the NBA All-Star 2024 and popular AEW shows like Dynamite, Rampage, and Collision reached nearly four million viewers each week. TLC also had a strong quarter, claiming the top spot as the #1 ad-supported primetime cable network without sports on Monday nights.
CNN continued to attract a large audience across television, streaming, and digital platforms, ranking in the top 5 of the most watched networks in all of cable. Adult Swim saw a 23 percent increase in prime ratings among Adults, with new series like Ninja Kamui and Royal Crackers performing well. Discovery Channel had success with returning series like Gold Rush and new shows like Mystery at Bling Frog Ranch.
ID ended the quarter as the #1 cable network without news or sports in total day among Women, driven by true crime series like The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks and Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. Food Network also saw ratings success with shows like Tournament of Champions and Beat Bobby Flay, while HGTV had strong performances with Rock the Block and Renovation Aloha.
OWN stood out on Friday nights with shows like Love & Marriage: Huntsville and Love & Marriage: DC, attracting a strong audience among African-American Women. Overall, Warner Bros. Discovery had a successful quarter across its various brands and programming genres, showing strong viewership numbers and ratings growth.
